I’m delighted to share that I will be co-editing a special issue of Matraga on Literature and Social Justice, alongside Akanksha Mehta (Goldsmiths, University of London).
In recent decades, scholars have increasingly highlighted the intersections between literary studies and social justice – exploring how narrative and form can reshape political imagination, ethical responsibility, and civic engagement. This special issue invites contributions that consider literature as a catalyst for social justice, broadly conceived. We welcome papers and book reviews in Portuguese, English, Spanish, or French, engaging with topics such as:
- Literature and human rights
- Narratives of migration, displacement, and asylum
- Gender, sexuality, and intersectionality in literary texts
- Ecocriticism, postcolonial studies, and environmental justice
- Literature, carcerality, protest, and abolitionist thought
- Pedagogical approaches to teaching literature and social justice
Submissions are open until March 31, 2026.
The issue will be published in September 2026.
